Bird box 221

The operation of the delicate mechanism of the jewelled bird box begins with the opening of the small lid on top of the box. A beautiful petite (2 cm) bird suddenly appears and “comes to life” by moving its beak, tail, wings, in synchronous motion with the song that it sings. After about 15 seconds the bird disappears into the box to be followed by the closure of the delicate oval lid. In the century's past these ornate bird boxes were special gift's for royalty and the rich. The box is approx. 110 mm wide.
